DescriptionPublished by Doubleday, New York, 1979, 1st US Edition, D/w, Fine.    George Willig is an American climber and mountaineer who achieved instant fame on May 26th 1977 when he climbed the 110 storeys of the South Tower of the World Trade Center in New York at the age of 27.  He took three-and-a-half hours to complete the climb, plenty of time for the media and authorities to descend on the location, having spent many months designing the special clamps needed to ensure he could progress safely up the window washing tracks.  He became known as “The Human Fly” or “Spiderman”, was invited onto many talk shows in America and went on to do stunt work in films.  The book is mainly about the painstaking preparations for the climb and the ascent itself, but is also autobiographical covering his upbringing and some of his other, more conventional, climbing exploits.
